SHANGHAI, CHINA--(Marketwired- Nov 11, 2013) - Iveco and New Holland Agriculture continue their support of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) "Action for Road Safety" campaign to raise awareness and promote education on safer driving behavior. They were present at the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) race at the Shanghai International Circuit on the 2nd and 3rd of November 2013.

Iveco drove an Iveco 682 truck carrying the WTCC 'Action for Road Safety' flag on the race lap at the Shanghai race track. As official suppliers of FIA's campaign, Iveco also displayed a Stralis Hi-Way truck, International Truck of the Year 2013, and a New Holland Agriculture T7000 Blue Power tractor, winner of the "Tractor of the Year 2010" Award.

Safety on the roads and in the fields

Safety is a critical issue on the roads, where it is estimated that 1.3 million people die every year in traffic accidents. It is equally vital in agriculture, which is one of the three sectors with the highest rates of injury and death in the workplace.

Iveco and New Holland Agriculture aim to contribute to greater safety on the roads and in farming through good design and safety features, developing vehicles and equipment that create the best possible conditions for safe operation.

Stralis Hi-Way, International Truck of the Year 2013

The new Stralis Hi-Way, a flagship model in the Iveco heavy range, was recognized last year by a jury as International Truck of the Year 2013 for its characteristics, including its safety features. It will also be commercialized in China in the beginning of 2014.

The driver of a Stralis can count on an efficient Electronic Brake System that provides a Brake Assistant function, for more rapid and efficient braking. In addition, among the vehicle's most advanced technological active safety solutions, are the Advanced Emergency Braking System, which alerts the driver of a possible collision while automatically placing the braking system into action in order to avoid impact or, if unable to do so, reduce the speed of impact; the Driver Attention Support feature which constantly monitors the level of driver attention by evaluating movement via the steering wheel and, in the case of driver drowsiness, an acoustic and visual alarm will draw their attention.

The vehicle is also equipped with a Lane Departure Warning System, which sounds an acoustic signal when the vehicle exits the lane without having activated the lane change signal. The system is highly efficient in preventing accidents caused by distraction and drowsiness. Lastly, the Xenon headlights increase driver visibility, guaranteeing a more secure and relaxed drive.

The Stralis Hi-Way cabin also demonstrates Iveco's great attention to safety. The cabin of a truck is both a working and living space for the driver. Because of this, the overall internal environment and onboard ergonomics have been designed considering elements such as driver posture, external visibility, operating position, console reachability and timely availability of aggregated data which are fundamental for comfort and safe driving. The Iveco 682: a local product meeting the global standards

An export heavy-duty on-road truck produced by Iveco's Chinese joint venture -- Saic-Iveco Hongyan (SIH), the Iveco 682 adopts Iveco's technology, high quality and design standards. Along with tailored configurations for both the Chinese and international markets, it meets the same global standards as Iveco's European-manufactured trucks, including safety.

This top-of-the-range model, which is a tailored export edition of the SIH Genlyon, is offered in multiple versions and is intended for the transport of coal, concrete and hazardous materials.

The cabin of the Iveco 682, re-designed based on the Stralis cab with optimized trimming, has passed the strict ECE-R29 crash test. This test demonstrated that when the vehicle experiences a collision, the cabin can move back 50 centimeters in order to decrease the force of collision, protecting the driver. The super strong frame of the Iveco 682 is made of high performance steel, 20% thicker than the frame of competitors' vehicles in the same class, offering not only more loading capacity but also higher durability and safety for customers. With an operating weight of 48,800 Kg, the Iveco 682 features an FPT Industrial Cursor 9 common rail engine which delivers consistently high power and torque in every working condition starting at very low rpm. The ZF hydraulic power steering with variable ratio and dual circle Air Brake System, further enhances driver safety while providing high maneuverability.

T7000 Blue Power: technology at the service of safety in the fields

The Active StopStart is another optional key safety feature of the Auto Command™ continuously variable transmission on New Holland's high horsepower tractors. It prevents all movement, forward or backward, as soon as the tractor stops -- even when working with heavy loads or on steep slopes.

New Holland's award-winning Intelligent Braking System is another extra feature that increases the braking safety of tractors towing trailers by automatically regulating braking force in proportion to the deceleration of the tractor. The resulting perfect harmonization of the braking action on the tractor/trailer combination prevents the risk of dangerous jack-knifing of the trailer.

In addition, all New Holland tractors feature Falling Object Protection Systems (FOPS) as standard, to protect the cab and operator against the risk of objects falling from above. This is an everyday risk when working with a front loader or in potentially hazardous areas.
